Notes:
- Before you begin making your friendship bracelet, you should know how to make a Right Hand Double Knot and Left Hand Double Knot. You can see these instructions at myfbm.com.
- These instructions teach you how to complete the pattern using My Friendship Bracelet Maker. However, the pattern can be completed without the loom as well.
Instructions:
- Pick four different colors and a fifth strand that you will knot your strings onto. (The example uses purple, white, pink, and black. Beige is the fifth color for the strings to be knotted onto.) You will need one strand of each color: purple, white, pink, black, and beige.
- Align string, fold in half, and tie knot 1/2 inch from fold forming a loop.
- Attach your 1/2-inch loop to MYFBM under the butterfly clip.
- Separate strings by placing one string per slot. Note: Use the same color in slots 1 and 2 (purple), slots 3 and 4 (white), slots 5 and 6 (pink), slots 7 and 8 (black), and slots 9 and 10 (beige). This will align the colors of your bracelet pattern. *** You also want to be careful not to pull the strings too tight when you make your first right or left hand double knot with each strand. You want to leave enough slack in the string to wrap around the knots for the “squiggle" effect.
- To begin, take string #8 (black) and make two right hand double knots, one each on string #9 (beige) and string #10 (beige). String #8 (black) will now be in slot 10.
- Take string #7 (black) and make two right hand double knots, one each on string #8 (beige) and string #9 (beige). String #7 (black) will now be in slot 9.
- Take string #6 (pink) and make two right hand double knots, one each on string #7 (beige) and string #8 (beige). String #6 (pink) will now be in slot 8.
- Take string #5 (pink) and make two right hand double knots, one each on string #6 (beige) and string #7 (beige). String #5 (pink) will now be in slot 7.
- Take string #4 (white) and make two right hand double knots, one each on string #5 (beige) and string #6 (beige). String #4 (white) will now be in slot 6.
- Take string #3 (white) and make two right hand double knots, one each on string #4 (beige) and string #5 (beige). String #3 (white) will now be in slot 5.
- Take string #2 (purple) and make two right hand double knots, one each on string #3 (beige) and string #4 (beige). String #2 (purple) will now be in slot 4.
- Take string #1 (purple) and make two right hand double knots, one each on string #2 (beige) and string #3 (beige). String #1 (purple) will now be in slot 3.
- Now you will head back the other direction using left hand double knots.
- Take string #3 (purple) and make two left hand double knots, one each on string #2 (beige) and string #1 (beige). String #3 (purple) will now be in slot 1.
- Take string #4 (purple) and make two left hand double knots, one each on string #3 (beige) and string #2 (beige). String #4 (purple) will now be in slot 2.
- Take string #5 (white) and make two left hand double knots, one each on string #4 (beige) and string #3 (beige). String #5 (white) will now be in slot 3.
- Take string #6 (white) and make two left hand double knots, one each on string #5 (beige) and string #4 (beige). String #6 (white) will now be in slot 14.
- Take string #7 (pink) and make two left hand double knots, one each on string #6 (beige) and string #5 (beige). String #7 (pink) will now be in slot 5.
- Take string #8 (pink) and make two left hand double knots, one each on string #7 (beige) and string #6 (beige). String #8 (pink) will now be in slot 6.
- Take string #9 (black) and make two left hand double knots, one each on string #8 (beige) and string #7 (beige). String #9 (black) will now be in slot 7.
- Take string #10 (black) and make two left hand double knots, one each on string #9 (beige) and string #8 (beige). String #10 (black) will now be in slot 8.
- At this point your pattern will now repeat itself. Repeat steps 5-21 to continue the pattern until your bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist.
- Once your bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist, take the strings from slots 1-3 in your left hand and the strings from slots 8-10 in your right hand and braid with the remaining four center strings.
- Take the braided strings and tie two basic knots at the end of your friendship bracelet. Learn how to finish your friendship bracelet with knots or beads by visiting myfbm.com.
- Unclip your friendship bracelet from the butterfly clip and cut off the excess braided section. Your bracelet is ready to wear or share!
